Diffusa è dunque la percezione di trovarsi davanti a una figura di svolta, per certi aspetti fondativa. E' la vicenda al centro di questo libro, che mostra - in una vivida, originale rilettura - come il suicidio di un cantante durante una "banale" competizione di musica "leggera" si sia trasformato inaspettatamente in un trauma collettivo capace di generare nel tempo una significativa, duplice, innovazione: la fabbricazione della canzone d'autore come autonomo genere musicale e la consacrazione del cantautore come identità culturale.</text>

Gli altri ottanta è un libro che raccoglie le testimonianze di alcuni tra i più importanti musicisti dell’epoca: un racconto corale a partire dai tardi anni settanta per arrivare alla fine del decennio successivo, un periodo di grandi contraddizioni, dalla crisi dei movimenti politici al nuovo boom economico. Gli ottanta non sono soltanto quelli del culto dell’ottimismo e del superfluo, non solo dance e synth-pop commerciale, ma anche un laboratorio di forme di comunicazione innovative. Sono parte di un immaginario di lotta, ribellione e ricerca della felicità e della bellezza. Chi è stato a un concerto dei Gang sa che Marino e i suoi “sermoni” prima delle canzoni hanno un obiettivo preciso: costruire una comunità attorno a dei racconti, come per “fare veglia”, come si diceva una volta nel mondo contadino. Questo libro ha lo stesso obiettivo: è un canzoniere dell’immaginario, dei Gang e per il nostro paese.</text>
