Alla fine degli anni Cinquanta, infatti, era sempre più forte il bisogno di un megafono che potesse parlare di autoaffermazione attraverso nuove sonorità che intrecciassero jazz, blues e gospel. Proprio dalle ultime due il soul ha assimilato quegli aspetti che legano emotività e impegno sociale, facendone la manifestazione compiuta della black music. In questo libro Antonio Bacciocchi racconta due decenni e oltre nei quali questo sound ha saputo contaminarsi attraverso matrimoni artistici con psichedelia, elettronica, hip hop, country e punk, generando derivazioni sonore che vanno dal funk al northern soul fino alla disco music. Anche quando ha lasciato la scena per far spazio ad altre sonorità, il soul non ha mai smesso di essere un'ispirazione per tutta la cultura musicale successiva, fino a oggi.</text>
